| /Bachelor of Fine Arts
This is a four-year intensive professional program in preparation for a career in art, and/or related fields or pursuit of a Master of Fine Arts degree. BFA students work closely with the Fine Arts advisor to tailor a studio curriculum that fits their particular interests and goals, and the intensive studio focus leads to a more seasoned professional portfolio. Students are encouraged to articulate their ideas in any art media of their choosing. Electives outside the USC Roski School of Fine Arts are kept to a minimum to allow greater focus in art practice. In addition, the student gains a solid grounding in art history and critical theory, stressing the importance of an interdependence of history, concept, and technique.
Major requirements for the BFA include approximately 20 studio courses, including the three required foundation courses in drawing, design and sculpture. All art majors are required to take two art history and three art theory and criticism courses. University requirements include six general education courses, two writing courses, and one diversity course. There is no math or foreign language requirement for the degree. A grade of C or higher is required in all major courses.
