Sequential Views are Flick’s selected individual video frame captures placed next to each other in a linear sequence, freezing the appearance of events and facades as fragments of a continuous evolving spectacle. They describe what is physically apart but what in memory may link up. The gridded segments may be read from left to right much like a written text, or may be viewed as visual fields to be entered wherever the eye chooses to rest and construct meaning.

Movies are selected video segments that Flick obtained by videotaping the passenger side view of the facades of buildings from a moving vehicle. Each segment is named after the specific city block or series of blocks that are represented. Collectively the video segments trace the full length journey along a single thoroughfare from beginning to end at a specific date and time.

Ethington’s panoramas, consisting of both still and ‘virtual reality’ (VR) genres, present a 360-degree view. These panoramas always begin with a northerly view. The still panoramas read clockwise from north through east, south, and west. Virtual reality (VR) panoramas open with a northerly view and can be manipulated in any direction. These panoramas expand and localize the particular views found in Flick’s Along Central and Along Pico and sustain the visual experience of being in a specific and completely unique place.
