Ghost Trajectories

2004

Ethington · Flick · Isoyama

Ghost Trajectories is an interactive multimedia database that enables the user to map the artwork of Robbert Flick within and beyond the metropolis of Los Angeles. Flick’s video footage and sequential views, which document Central Ave. and Pico Blvd. are placed within Ethington’s cartography, textual narratives, census maps, and historical photos. Ethington presents the ghostly presences of social, cultural, political, and global history that lie within, behind, and beyond Flick’s streetscapes. Isoyama’s spatially-structured database inscribes the Flick archive and the Ethington interpretations within the metropolitan context, so that users can construct countless possible narratives through maps and categories of intersecting representations.
