/FAQs
Is the GRE required for admission? A GRE score is not required for admission to the Public Art Studies Program. However, other schools and departments within USC will have different requirements; if you are planning to pursue a dual or double degree, please check with the appropriate school or department.
Is an interview required for admission? An interview is required. Visiting campus, meeting the director and sitting in on a class is the best way to determine if this is the right graduate program for you. You can combine an interview with a class visit. Interviews are typically scheduled for Tuesday or Thursday at 5pm with class beginning at 6pm. Contact us to schedule an interview.
Does the PAS Program offer any scholarships or fellowships? Yes. Please visit our Financial Aid page.
I don't have any professional experience in public art. Should I still apply? Yes. Passion for public art, a commitment to work in the arts and leadership skills are some of what we look for at USC.
I graduated from college several years ago. Can I use professional instead of academic recommendations? Yes, we accept recommendations from both. You might also consider recommendations from any volunteering you have done.
I just found out about your program, but I have missed the February 1 deadline. Can I still apply? Yes. We accept applications through July 15 on a space-available basis. You may want to contact us to find out about our space availabilty. Also be aware that you may not be eligible for many financial aid packages, scholarships and Public Art Awards (non-PAS Awards are administered separately and may have separate deadlines).
Can you help me get an internship in the public art field? We only place students that are currently enrolled in the Public Art Studies Program into internships. Once enrolled, internship placement usually occurs at the end of your first year. Most students intern in the summer after their first year or during their second year of coursework.
Is it feasible for me to work while I'm in school? Yes. Most of our students continue to work part- or full-time during the day and attend classes in the evening. Most students find that working more than 20 hours per week is extremely demanding. It is also helpful to work close to the university as daily commuting takes its toll.
Can I attend part-time? Yes. A few students each year decide to pursue the MPAS degree on an extended track (usually three years instead of two). It is your responsibility to determine how a part-time enrollment would affect your financial aid package.
