/Spinner Avoda Research Fellowship

This award recognizes the demonstrated leadership in Jewish community activities of qualified incoming Master of Public Art Studies students. The Spinner Avoda Research Fellowship is a distinction within the Master of Public Art Studies program for students interested in applying their community-based practice in cultural organizations to Jewish community art programming, administration, advocacy and educational outreach. Coursework is completed at USC and in collaboration with Hebrew Union College Jewish Institute of Religion, Los Angeles.

The Spinner Avoda Research Fellowship is a full tuition remission (up to 8 units per semester) and stipend award for the complete two-year, 32-unit MPAS degree, or 32 units (over 2 years) towards the Master of Public Art Studies portion of the Master of Public Art Studies/Master of Arts in Jewish Communal Service or MPAS/Master of Planning degree. The course of study includes 21 units of core course work in public art history, administration, policy, and advocacy. The remaining units are composed of coursework directed towards arts-based cultural engagement. The Fellow will conduct original directed research with an emphasis on Jewish community and culture. Both the internship and thesis requirements for the MPAS degree serve as capstones for the research fellowship. The Spinner Avoda Research Fellowship internship will involve a placement in an arts or cultural organization and the thesis will be focused on special topic relevant to the field.
